Service Fellowships

We are thrilled to announce a new scholarship category, the first one added since the Stemler Study-Abroad scholarship in 2008. Alpha Lambda Delta has established a new Service Fellowship. We’ll award five deserving members $2000 fellowships to support a term of service through a global or domestic service organization, either post-graduation or between studies. These will be named Fellowships, and the first will be named for a long-standing chapter advisor at Baylor University and former Board member who retired in 2022, Deborah Manzanares, in honor of her many years of service to Alpha Lambda Delta.

There are many ways to engage or serve communities domestically and globally after graduation or even between semesters as an undergraduate. If you are considering taking a "Gap Year" (or term) to explore these opportunities, you are encouraged to apply for an ALD Service Fellowship. You might even find yourself pursuing service in between jobs. As a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, you are eligible for a Service Fellowship at any point in your journey.

What is a gap year and why is it beneficial to take?
A gap year is a period of time where students are able to take a break from formal education in order to travel, study, pursue internships, take time to apply to graduate schools, and best of all volunteer for organizations that make a positive impact on the world. By taking a gap year students are able to strengthen graduate school applications, gain confidence and independence, and positively affect fellow human beings around the world through service and civic engagement.

Below are some service programs available domestically and internationally, but this is not an exhaustive list. If you’re planning to participate in a service program that is not listed below, you are still eligible to apply for the Service Fellowship.
